Renee Alton, Junior Girls Practitioner:This will be my second year as practitioner at Camp Bow-Isle for Junior girls. I took last year off as I was elected First Reader of my church and I also have a new puppy that needed constant attention! But I just couldn’t take another year off from Camp! I grew up in Washington State on Puget Sound and have always loved the out of doors, especially the woods, I loved learning about the different trees and plants and especially INSECTS! I had a huge collection!…but I never had the opportunity to go to camp as a camper. I was a counselor when I was in High School at a winter camp in the mountains in Washington for grade schoolers but never a “camper.” So I get to go to camp as an adult and I love it! It’s such a gift to be with all of the amazing counselors, to see their creativity and love and support of the campers and to be a part of this wonderful opportunity to break limitations and grow into a truer sense of womanhood together. I learn so much from all of you. I love being a perpetual student! Camp Bow-Isle provides a safe place where we can just be who we are and it’s great to be a part of supporting one another as we discover more of who we are through our practice of Christian Science. All of the activities provide the opportunity to trust more in God and to rely on Her more for everything, our strength, our courage, our individuality, our freedom, our joy, and how to love one another better! I’m so grateful to be invited back to Camp this year so I too can experience the fun and spiritual growth and friendships that come from our time together. I’ll be bringing my little dog, Mia with me this summer! I think you’ll like her. She continues to teach me a lot about patience and trusting in God. I’m so looking forward to being with all of you!
Lindsey Biggs, Senior Girls Practitioner:I love my work as a Christian Science Practitioner. It’s a joy to help others and get to know God better myself
I love my dogs and cats, hiking, kayaking, art and music. I am looking forward to being at Bow Isle this summer!
Abby Becker, Counselor. I love camp! I’ve been coming since I was a kid, and I can’t tell you how much fun it is to get to spend two weeks with campers learning and growing in Christian Science. I’ve been on staff for about seven years now, and in the off season I run a multimedia design business with my best friend, located in Portland, Oregon. I absolutely love the Pacific Northwest, and it’s such a treat to be able to head up to camp for the summer where we get to play, in such an amazing setting. Camp has been a big part of my life, and I’m excited to share it with the campers this summer!
Emily Osborne, Counselor: My name is Emily and I am so thrilled to be on staff at Bow-Isle this summer! I am currently a sophomore and a Global Perspectives major at Principia College where I love running on the cross-country and track teams. I also love traveling around the world and being outdoors in beautiful British Columbia. Most of all, I love sharing Christian Science with others through everything I do. I can’t wait to meet you at camp!
Rachel Holser, Counselor: I am a self-proclaimed adventurer and nerd. The natural system of the planet has fascinated me since I was a little girl, so I balance my time between studying ocean system dynamics and just playing in the good old out-of-doors. I studied biology at Principia College and oceanography at Oregon State University (yes, that still counts of playing), and am an avid runner and rock climber. My other loves are my books, cameras, and fur seals. I’m very excited to be back at camp this summer, and can’t wait to meet our campers.
Hannah Mensing, Counselor: After spending a few years away, I am super excited to be back for my fourth summer on staff at the best camp ever! I’ve spent the last few years working as a teacher in upstate New York and Colorado, teaching ESoL and Science. I’ve missed camp only to travel the world, study Christian Science and adventure with my dog Moose. I’m looking forward to demonstrating with your child how, “Mind, joyous in strength, dwells in the realm of Mind. Mind’s infinite ideas run and disport themselves”.
Rachel Bergquist, Counselor: I can’t wait to be at Camp Bow-Isle this summer! I’ve had a year full of opportunities. I have lived at home in Olympia, Washington, out of a backpack in Mexico, and in Spain, where I learned Spanish and how to cook anything with enough olive oil. I love Bowen Island, and getting to know awesome kids, like all of the girls I am sure to meet this summer!
Shannon Nordling, Counselor: I can’t wait for another summer at Camp Bow-Isle! Why, you may ask? Well, because being at camp means freedom to play like a kid again, explore, go on adventures, challenge myself, pray every day, and really live Christian Science. It gives me the opportunity to play with and learn from our amazing campers and staff. When I’m not at camp and counting down the days until summer, I enjoy studying literature at my wonderful Liberal Arts and Science university in BC, exploring the North Shore mountains where I live, reading novels, playing soccer, spending time with my lovely family and so much more! I can’t wait for another summer at Bow-Isle filled with sun, silliness and Love!
Victoria Dreher, Junior Counselor: I will be a sophomore in college this fall and will be majoring in music education. I enjoy hanging out with young people and teaching them something new. I look forward to being on staff because when I was a camper, the counselors were amazing, caring and loving, and I want to be the same as they were for me. My camp experience helped me meet Christian Science kids from all over the country. I can’t wait to meet your kids this year as we start our journey at camp!
Genevieve Marsh, Junior Counselor: I live in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of Northern California where I like to windsurf, backpack, and build shelters and sculptures. I have a younger sister who is just starting high school. I also have a horse named Breezy, who I like to ride around nearby Folsom Lake. This spring I trained for a 100-mile road bike ride with a group of Girl Scouts. My favorite part of camp is the atmosphere, where we all get to be ourselves and play in the dirt, and of course, enjoy the yummy food! I can’t wait to live outdoors, play lots of games, sing and practice new skills with you.
Camille Richardson, Junior Counselor: Hi! I’m from Eugene Oregon. I do ballet and piano and I love to rock climb. I love Christian Science and Bow-isle and I’m so glad I get to help out and share wonderful experiences with everyone. I was a CIT last year at Bow-Isle, one of the most rewarding experiences, and I’m very happy to be on staff again!
Kelsy Brawn, CIT: I’ve lived in Vernon, B.C. for eight years. I love trying new things and working with lots of different people, through music lessons, school, tennis teams, extra activities such as yearbook, and small jobs such as babysitting and helping operate a concession stand during the summer. I love being with my family and friends, taking my dog for walks, or just being together. I have been to Nicaragua with a school program and have been to Bowen Island for the past three years for camp. With camp, I find myself loving the whole experience more with each activity. I find that camp has helped me see more what being a child of God constitutes, for myself as well as others. It really gets me excited about Christian Science and living it each day. I am looking forward to being on staff at Camp Bow-Isle because I want to help contribute to others’ camp experiences and to be there for them the way my counselors have been there for me. I am so excited to continue to experience Camp Bow-Isle, and to help others see how loved they are, here at camp and all year long!
Kimberly Sheasley, CIT: I’m from Bellevue, Washington, and I will be a freshman in the fall at Principia College. I’ve participated in many athletic activities including soccer, basketball, cross country, track and field, and I love to ski. My junior and senior years of high school, I led the Outdoor Club at The Principia Upper School, where we enjoyed hiking, camping and mountain biking. Principia has provided a place for Christian Science to be the forefront of consciousness and I am excited to continue my education at the college. Last year, I had the pleasure of being on staff and met a great group of girls. My love for camp keeps bringing me back to Bowen Island, where I was a camper for eight years. I’m looking forward to meeting your daughter and getting to know her. I have grown so much from my camp experience, and I would love for every camper to feel like they can lean on God while participating in any activity. Camp is the highlight of my year, and I can’t wait to witness your daughter’s growth!
Jane Whitmore, CIT: In June I graduated from high school in Tigard, Oregon and will be attending university in the fall. I have had the privilege of attending Camp Bow-Isle several times during my school years and have come away from it inspired to practice Christian Science and committed to several things ~ not the least of which is mountain biking! This has been an important athletic discovery at camp which I hope to take into my adult years. Back home I am involve with music ~ as a harpist for Portland Youth Philharmonic, and as a pianist. In fact, I play the hymns in Sunday School and substitute for Wednesday evening meetings once in awhile for the congregation. I have also participated in Scottish Highland Dance over the past few years. Something unusual about me is that I collected Bobsey Twins books when I was in first and second grades. The characters were practically part of my family back then and to this day I love detective stories. I look forward to meeting you and your daughter. We will learn much about how to solve problems together and just hang out and enjoy life and each other.
